Fahrenheit 451

Technology is like a double-bladed knife. It may help you preparing delectable meals, but it may also hurt your fingers. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury criticized the negative effects of emerging technologies. He pictured a world where books are prohibited and shall be burned. That is because televion has destroyed interest in reading literature.

The storyline of Fahrenheit 451 seems to be extreme... or doesn't it? Today we have even more complex and massive technologies. Almost every single person owns a personal technological device, be it mobile phone, laptop, audio player, tablet PC, etc. These modern devices dominate our daily life, and weaken the existence of television. Then how about books?

I gotta admit, I spend much much much more time browsing through my laptop than reading books. Yes, it is that much! A wise friend of mine advised me to read through my laptop. "Why don't you try e-books?" he said. He passed me an ebook reader software and some copies of free e-books. This is addictive, actually! I wonder if I can get myself a Kindle or an iPad :D

Next book on my e-shelve is definitely Fahrenheit 451. This weekend, I'll be sitting on my couch, flipping through the e-pages on my laptop screen. And I'll be wearing Out of Print's Fahrenheit 451 tee ($28.00). It features the book's cover from Corgi UK version.

Call Me... Or Not?

When you meet a guy that you find interesting, what do you do? Do you approach him and introduce yourself? Or do you wait until he comes around and asks your name?

Say, you finally chat with him. Time goes by, and you've been talking for hours. It's already late, you should go home. Being a gentleman that he is, he offers to accompany you.

Okay, your home is not really far and the path way is pretty safe. It's not a bad idea to let him walk you home. That means more time to chat, anyway. Under the bright sky, the moment of romance sweeps in and you get carried away.

And then, at the front of your door, he gives you his name card, "Okay, let's call it a day. Give me a call!" You leave him and get inside the house. It was fun, but will you call him? Wait a minute.

"He's cute and all, but..." what other words can go after that?

"You're just not that into him."

Sometimes you meet someone, but the chemistry's just not there. You don't feel like calling him nor returning his calls. And that's okay, no one's to blame on. You just don't make the cut.

No More Dark, I Now Have This Super Cute Generator

*bump*

Oh, i can't see anything. Suddenly everything just turn into black. I ran into my window and find out there're still lot of lights at my neighbor's. There must be my bulb then. Yea, i should change it by tomorrow.

So tonight i have no light in my room. I think it's quite nice sometimes.
I grab my pillow and lean over it, then think, what if the entire city lost the power at the same time. Geez, it must be super dark. Super black. And what should i do then?

I should prepare if this happen. Hmm, super generator. Should i have it?



So the next morning i browse about generator. Instead of getting one, i found this cutie tee (16,90 €) from Rotoydescosida. Love the color, and also love the design. I suddenly fall in love with this kind of generator. Oh, and i feel smart when i wear it. :D

Catch the Catcher in the Rye, in Style

It's time to get cozy with your favorite novel. You can now wear J. D. Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye". Brought to you by Out of Print, this stylish fleece adapts the iconic first edition dust jacket designed by Michael Mitchell.

The controversial book is hard to forget. It's hard to forget about Holden Caulfield. Whether you're in or over your teenage phase, I bet you can feel him. He's an icon for teenage rebellion and angst. But I hope you won't go too far.

From what I know, The Catcher in the Rye has been associated with the murder of John Lennon. The shooter, Mark David Chapman, was arrested with his worn copy of the book. Another example is John Hinckley, Jr.'s assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan.

This book is nothing sort of ordinary. I personally won't agree that it triggers murder actions. Instead, I would recommend people to read it, in a way that it should lead to discussions about social issues. It's a marvelous piece, indeed.

We should be thankful that we live in the freedom era, where book-banning is not preferable. We can read "The Catcher in the Rye". We can even wear it, giving the impression of "I've read this novel and it's good. Wanna talk about it?"

It's time to celebrate the world's greatest stories through fashion. Out of Print has this cool idea of creating tee shirts that feature iconic and often out-of-print book covers. They work closely with artists, authors and publishers to license the content that ends up in their collections. 

Each tee shirt is a work of art, treated to feel soft and worn like a well-read book. The whole collection is just beautiful, but the first one caught by my eyes is the Mockingbird. My eyes don't lie. This one is Out of Print's first collaboration with award-winning designer Mikey Burton. Burton created book covers as part of his grad school thesis project to get young adults interested in reading. The particular piece was designed for Harper Lee's classic "To Kill a Mockingbird".

Let's talk a bit about the book then. "To Kill a Mockingbird" deals with the issues of racism that were observed by the author as a child in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama. This bestselling novel was published in July 1960 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1961. Nowadays, it remains a bestseller with more than 30 million copies in print. Despite being Lee's only published book, it led to Lee being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom of the United States for her contribution to literature in 2007.

Now do you need another reason to buy the tee? I'm not sure you do. But there's actually a really good reason to add up. Out of Print's mission is to spread the joy of reading. Down, Lower Right, Right, Punch: Haduken!

If you claim yourself as a real gamer, I bet you know about Street Fighter. You don’t know it, your claim isn’t valid then. The game designed firstly by Takashi Nishiyama and Hiroshi Matsumoto in 1987. Since about 20 years ago, the game never end. The last version is Street Fighter IV launched on last April for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

I’ve played the game since 15 years ago. I completed the game the first time I played in Sega console. Notes, I completed the game with only one combination of joypad. It’s down, lower right, right and punch combination. It’s haduken! Ryu’s special attack. There is another special attack called shoryuken but I wasn’t interested.

In japanesse neologism haduken literally means “wave motion fist” or “surge fist”, while shoryuken means “rising dragon fist”. In Street Fighter, I interpret as fireball achieved by thrusting the game-character’s palm forward, sending a surge of spirit energi, sending a “chi blast” to the enemies. That’s why it could be blast off the enemies even in a long range, as in the other move needs the character to be close enough with the enemies. That’s why I love using this attack. And speaking of Haduken, for you who claim as a gamer, I bet you’ll love this haduken shirt from nerdyshirt. With $19.97, this tee is for you who sat inside all summer long playing Street Fighter.

It's Optimus Prime!

Future is not about vampires, or warewolf: it's about Robot. And to think about robot, is to think about Optimus Prime. This leader of Autobot is a great figure to be talked. He has all the abilities and manners, a good robot should have.

Prime from planet Cybertron, he would destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons. He is depicted as a heroic, brave and compassionate character who puts all his talent to use to improve the universe around him. Optimus has a strong sense of justice and righteousness, and has dedicated himself to the protection of all life, particularly the inhabitants of Earth; he will battle his foes with unyielding resolve.

The original Optimus Prime transforms into a cab over truck as a daily form. The truck's cab transforms into the robot mode of Prime himself, with vast strength and armed with a laser rifle. Contained within his chest is the mystic talisman known as the Autobot Matrix of Leadership (or Creation Matrix, depending on the continuity), carried by all Autobot leaders and passed down through the ages. Optimus Prime Character first shown on 1984 story book "Return to Cyberton" by Marvel Book. As a remaining of the first appearence of Optimus prime, this wonderful tee was created ($24).
